Police Line-Up # 1

Wood did NOT do the main illustration here on the cover of Avon's 1951 POLICE LINE-UP # 1 but he did do the little heads at left as well as the inside front cover, also seen here.

Former Woodworker Alan Kupperberg writes:

I thought you might want to alert Wood fans about this book. I was asked to illustrate it and my reaction to the material was galvanic. And I tried my meager best to channel Wally Wood in my illustrations. In the end, I was me, but I was thinking "Woody" all the way.

Batboy and Rubin Animated

Just watched a recent BRAVE AND BOLD cartoon written by Paul Dini in which Bat-Mite surveys various different versions of the Caped Crusader over the years. in this case a Bat-Manga version circa 1966, a Scooby-Doo pastiche done as if in the mid-seventies and best of all, Kurtzman and Wood's BATBOY AND RUBIN with Wood-esque animation all around including these lovely Wood Women.

Castle of Frankenstein Reviews Witzend # 1-1967

for an independent publication as it was, this may well have been the biggest review WITZEND # 1 got! In spite of Wood associate Bhob Stewart editing the magazine, the review was not written by him but instead by one Mike McInerney.

The Wallace Wood Portfolio

This is from Woody's 1968 self-published portfolio, printed to be distributed to potential commercial illustration clients in order to showcase the artist's various styles. Not sure how many were actually distributed or how much work they garnered him but a decade later he still had enough copies to be sending them out free to FOO members.

Battle Bridges-1955

Probably Wood's first work for National Comics, this ALL-AMERICAN MEN OF WAR story appeared in a late 1955 code-approved issue. The official checklist credits Wood with inks only but GCD says that editor Julius Schwartz'a papers confirmed pencils and inks by Wood.
